Bloc Captains

Overview

The Bloc Captains are an innovative leadership initiative designed to foster community engagement and promote positive change in our neighborhoods. This program recruits a team of dedicated Bloc Captains to oversee and enhance activities within at least four core community institutions, ensuring each area receives focused, expert guidance and leadership.

Core Community Institutions

  1. Mentoring/Tutoring Students

    Objective: To support academic achievement and personal development among students.

    Role of the Bloc Captain: The Bloc Captain dedicated to this institution will coordinate tutoring sessions, pair students with appropriate mentors, and organize educational workshops. They will also monitor progress and adapt strategies to meet the evolving needs of students at the high school level.

  2. Community Service Projects and Events

    Objective: To engage the community in meaningful service projects and enriching events that promote civic pride and environmental stewardship.

    Role of the Bloc Captain: This Bloc Captain will plan, execute, and evaluate a variety of service projects and community events. Responsibilities include mobilizing Squad Leaders and local community members to volunteer, securing resources, and fostering partnerships with local organizations to enhance event impact and reach.

  3. Culture Keeping & Violence Interruption

    Objective: To preserve the cultural heritage of peace and unity and address community safety through proactive violence interruption strategies in coordination with Bloc Captains from other communities.

    Role of the Bloc Captain: Focused on cultural preservation and safety, this leader will organize workshops and dialogues that celebrate community identity. They will also implement violence interruption strategies, coordinating with other Bloc Captains from other communities and other community leaders to mitigate conflicts and promote peace.

  4. Healing & Service Navigation

    Objective: To provide emotional support and guide community members in accessing necessary services.

    Role of the Bloc Captain: This captain will connect individuals with health and social services, facilitate support groups, and organize wellness activities that promote mental and physical health. They will also track community needs to ensure that essential services are accessible to those in need.

Mentorship Role

In addition to their specific duties, all Bloc Captains will serve as mentors for Squad Leaders, offering guidance and support to nurture the next generation of community leaders. This dual role ensures that our leaders not only direct projects effectively but also invest in building leadership capacity within the community.
